Commissions
In the era of digital photography you are never short of great photographs of family and friends. What better way to commemorate a special occasion or to create a different kind of gift than by commissioning your very own unique piece of art?
Working from digital photographs (either supplied by you or taken by me for the specific purpose) I can create a memorable oil painting for you and your loved ones. Its easier than you think. Below are some examples of commissions as well as a simple `How to` list and an idea of pricing.

How it works
1. Contact me on simon.j.dalby@gmail.com and we can discuss your idea via e-mail or over the phone (or in person).
2. You e-mail to me your reference photographs.
3. We then discuss an appropriate composition and if elements are missing, ways to get around this (eg take additional photographs or find online reference images). We also discuss the desired size of painting. At this stage I will quote you a price for the finished piece, frame excluded. A 10% deposit is payable at this stage. If you are happy with this we can proceed.
4. I then work up an initial study and e-mail it to you. Once you are happy with the composition I start work on the painting.
5. I keep you in the loop as the painting progresses by sending you photographs of key stages. You are free to let me know of any `tweaks` or changes you would like to see.
6. I e-mail you a final image and at this stage it is still possible for small final alterations so you are totally happy with the finished work.
7. You pay the balance, plus shipping if necessary, only after you have received and are happy with the painting.

Commission prices
Many things affect the price of the painting: the size, the medium, the number of figures, whether black and white or colour, whether additional original photography is needed, and so on.
Prices start at 50,000 yen (GBP 350, US$ 475) excluding consumption tax for the simplest, smallest (eg 30 X 40 cms) compositions.
Larger canvases of 50 x 60 cms, 60 x 70 cms or more might range in price between 150,000 to 250,000 yen (GBP 1,000-1650, US$ 1425-2400).
Larger compositions still or ones involving multiple figures and detailed preparation (eg extra source photography) would command prices of 300,000 yen plus (GBP 2000+, US$ 2850+).
NB The prices quoted are primarily in Japanese yen as that is my domicile. However I can accept payment in US$ or GBP sterling upon request.
